Set Subject Definitions
UK Landscapes:
An image portraying the environment in all its forms. e.g. rural, urban or coastal landscape image will be accepted including Colour, Monochrome, Infra-red, HDR and Panoramic images.
Composite images (images containing elements taken from multiple other images, taken at different times and locations) may not be entered into this subject.
Images in this subject MUST be taken in the United Kingdom only.
Close Up:
Refers to images that bring the viewer physically or visually closer to the subject than they would normally experience.
The subject should fill the frame or dominate the composition.
Images may be macro, close‑focus, or tightly cropped, but must clearly convey a sense of intimacy, detail, or proximity.
Architecture:
Refers to the design, structure, and aesthetic of buildings or built environments.
Eligible subjects include:
- Exterior or interior views of buildings
- Bridges, monuments, towers, and engineered structures
- Architectural details (patterns, textures, shapes, materials)
- Historic, modern, industrial, or vernacular architecture
The architectural element must be clearly identifiable and central to the image’s intent.
Low Angle:
Refers to photographs taken from a camera position lower than the subject, looking upward or from a ground‑level perspective.
The low angle must be intentional, obvious, and integral to the image’s impact.
Examples include:
- Shooting upward toward buildings, people, animals, or objects
- Ground‑level viewpoints
- Dramatic perspectives that emphasise height, scale, or dominance
